Tahu Isi Sambal (stuffed Tofu In Spicy Sauce)

Ingredients

  • 4 pieces of firm tofu
  • 100g bean sprouts
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 shallots, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 red chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp shrimp paste
  • 1 tsp tamarind paste
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the tofu by cutting a slit in the middle to create a pocket for the filling.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and fry the tofu until golden brown. Set aside.
  3. In a separate pan, sauté the shallots, garlic, and chilies until fragrant.
  4. Add the bean sprouts, shrimp paste, tamarind paste, sugar, and salt. Cook for a few minutes until the bean sprouts are tender.
  5. Stuff the tofu pockets with the bean sprout mixture.
  6. Dip the stuffed tofu in beaten eggs and fry until golden brown.
  7. Drain the excess oil and serve the stuffed tofu with the spicy sauce.
