Taiwanese Beef Rolls (牛肉捲餅)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 4 scallions, cut into 3-inch lengths
  • 1 cucumber, julienned
  • 4 large flour tortillas
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon five-spice powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix hoisin sauce, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, sesame oil, five-spice powder, garlic powder, and black pepper to make the sauce.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced flank steak and cook until browned, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Spread a thin layer of the sauce onto each flour tortilla. Place cooked beef, scallions, and julienned cucumber on top of the sauce.
  4. Roll up the tortillas, tucking in the sides to create a neat package.
  5. Return the rolled tortillas to the skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes on each side, until the tortillas are crispy and golden brown.
  6. Slice the beef rolls into halves and serve hot.
