Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs beef stew meat, cut into chunks
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 onion, sliced
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 3 slices ginger
- 2 star anise
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp dark soy sauce
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 4 cups water
- 2 tbsp cooking oil
Instructions
- Heat the cooking oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the garlic, ginger, and onion. Sauté until fragrant.
- Add the beef stew meat to the pot and brown on all sides.
- Pour in the soy sauce, dark soy sauce, and sugar. Stir to coat the beef.
- Add the tomatoes, star anise, and cinnamon sticks. Pour in the water and bring to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 2 hours or until the beef is tender.
- Once the beef is tender, uncover the pot and continue to simmer until the sauce thickens.
- Remove the ginger slices, star anise, and cinnamon sticks before serving.
