Tam Som (green Papaya Salad)

Ingredients

  • 1 medium green papaya, shredded
  • 2-3 cloves garlic
  • 3-5 Thai bird's eye chilies, to taste
  • 2-3 cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 2 tablespoons fish sauce
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon palm sugar
  • 2 tablespoons roasted peanuts, crushed
  • 1/4 cup long beans, cut into 1-inch pieces

Instructions

  1. Using a mortar and pestle, pound the garlic and chilies together until crushed.
  2. Add the cherry tomatoes and pound lightly to release their juices.
  3. Add the long beans and lightly pound to bruise them.
  4. Add the shredded green papaya, fish sauce, lime juice, and palm sugar. Toss and pound gently to combine and allow the flavors to meld.
  5. Transfer the salad to a serving plate and sprinkle with crushed peanuts.
