Tam Som, or Green Papaya Salad, is a popular dish in Lao Cuisine known for its vibrant flavors and refreshing taste. This salad is a perfect balance of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy, making it a delightful addition to any meal.
Ingredients
- 1 medium green papaya, shredded
- 2-3 cloves garlic
- 3-5 Thai bird's eye chilies, to taste
- 2-3 cherry tomatoes, halved
- 2 tablespoons fish sauce
- 2 tablespoons lime juice
- 1 tablespoon palm sugar
- 2 tablespoons roasted peanuts, crushed
- 1/4 cup long beans, cut into 1-inch pieces
Instructions
- Using a mortar and pestle, pound the garlic and chilies together until crushed.
- Add the cherry tomatoes and pound lightly to release their juices.
- Add the long beans and lightly pound to bruise them.
- Add the shredded green papaya, fish sauce, lime juice, and palm sugar. Toss and pound gently to combine and allow the flavors to meld.
- Transfer the salad to a serving plate and sprinkle with crushed peanuts.
