Tamees (traditional Saudi Arabian Falafel)
Tamees is a traditional Saudi Arabian falafel that is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It's a popular street food and can be enjoyed as a snack or a light meal.
Ingredients
- 2 cups dried chickpeas
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- Salt to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- Soak the chickpeas in water for at least 8 hours or overnight. Drain well.
- In a food processor, combine the soaked chickpeas, onion, garlic, parsley, cumin, coriander, baking soda, and salt. Process until the mixture is finely ground but not pureed.
- Transfer the mixture to a bowl and refrigerate for 1 hour.
- Form the mixture into small balls and flatten slightly to form patties.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the patties in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Remove the falafel from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- Serve the tamees falafel hot with tahini sauce or hummus.
