Tamiya (iraqi Falafel)
Tamiya, also known as Iraqi falafel, is a popular street food in Iraq. These crispy, flavorful fritters are made with a blend of herbs, spices, and chickpeas, making them a delicious and satisfying snack or meal.
Ingredients
- 2 cups dried chickpeas, soaked overnight
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic
- 1 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- Salt to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- Drain the soaked chickpeas and pat them dry with a paper towel.
- In a food processor, combine the chickpeas, onion, garlic, parsley, cilantro, cumin, coriander, cayenne pepper, and salt. Pulse until the mixture is finely ground but not pureed.
- Transfer the mixture to a bowl and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Form the mixture into small patties and fry in hot oil until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Remove the falafel from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- Serve the tamiya hot with tahini sauce, pita bread, and fresh vegetables.
