Tangy Lemon Rasam
Tangy Lemon Rasam is a traditional South Indian soup that is bursting with flavors of tangy lemon, aromatic spices, and a hint of heat. This comforting and nutritious soup is perfect for a cozy evening or as a soothing remedy for a cold.
Ingredients
- 4 cups water
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 2 dried red chilies
- 1 tablespoon ghee (clarified butter) or oil
- 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- In a pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
- Add the chopped tomato and cook for 5 minutes.
- In a small pan, heat the ghee or oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds, black peppercorns, mustard seeds, turmeric powder, and dried red chilies. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until the spices are fragrant.
- Pour the spice mixture into the boiling water and tomato. Add salt and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
- Turn off the heat and stir in the lemon juice.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
