Tangy Lemon Rasam

Ingredients

  • 4 cups water
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 dried red chilies
  • 1 tablespoon ghee (clarified butter) or oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
  2. Add the chopped tomato and cook for 5 minutes.
  3. In a small pan, heat the ghee or oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds, black peppercorns, mustard seeds, turmeric powder, and dried red chilies. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until the spices are fragrant.
  4. Pour the spice mixture into the boiling water and tomato. Add salt and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. Turn off the heat and stir in the lemon juice.
  6. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
