Tangy Tamarind Rice
Tangy Tamarind Rice is a popular South Indian dish known for its unique blend of tangy and spicy flavors. This dish is a perfect combination of tamarind, rice, and a variety of aromatic spices, making it a delicious and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 1 cup basmati rice
- 2 cups water
- 1 lemon-sized ball of tamarind
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds
- 2-3 dried red chilies
- 10-12 curry leaves
- 1/4 tsp asafoetida (hing)
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp roasted peanuts
- 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
Instructions
- Wash and cook the basmati rice with 2 cups of water. Once cooked, spread it on a plate to cool.
- Soak the tamarind in warm water for 15 minutes, then extract the pulp and set aside.
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, dried red chilies, and curry leaves. Sauté until the seeds splutter.
- Add the tamarind pulp, turmeric powder, asafoetida, and salt. Cook until the mixture thickens.
- Add the cooked rice to the tamarind mixture and mix well. Add roasted peanuts and chopped coriander leaves. Mix gently.
- Tangy Tamarind Rice is ready to be served.
