Tangy Tomato Chutney (ಟೊಮೇಟೊ ಚಟ್ನಿ)
ಟೊಮೇಟೊ ಚಟ್ನಿ (Tangy Tomato Chutney) is a popular South Indian condiment that pairs well with dosa, idli, vada, and rice. It is a delicious and tangy chutney made with ripe tomatoes, spices, and herbs.
Ingredients
- 4 ripe tomatoes, chopped
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2-3 green chilies
- 1/2 inch ginger, chopped
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp urad dal (black gram)
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- 2 tbsp oil
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add urad dal and sauté until golden brown.
- Add chopped onions, green chilies, and ginger. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
- Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes turn soft and mushy.
- Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool down.
- Transfer the mixture to a blender and blend it to a smooth paste.
- For tempering, heat a little oil in a small pan and add mustard seeds and curry leaves. Once they splutter, pour the tempering over the chutney.
