Ingredients

  • 4 ripe tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2-3 green chilies
  • 1/2 inch ginger, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp urad dal (black gram)
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add urad dal and sauté until golden brown.
  2. Add chopped onions, green chilies, and ginger. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
  3. Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes turn soft and mushy.
  4. Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool down.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a blender and blend it to a smooth paste.
  6. For tempering, heat a little oil in a small pan and add mustard seeds and curry leaves. Once they splutter, pour the tempering over the chutney.
