Tapioca Biryani (kappa Biriyani)
Tapioca Biryani, also known as Kappa Biriyani, is a traditional dish from Kerala Cuisine that combines the unique flavors of tapioca with aromatic spices and tender meat or vegetables.
Ingredients
- 500g tapioca, peeled and cubed
- 250g boneless chicken or vegetables of your choice
- 2 onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 2 tbsp biryani masala
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 2 tbsp ghee
- 4 cups water
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Boil the tapioca in salted water until tender, then drain and set aside.
- In a separate pan, heat ghee and sauté the onions until golden brown.
- Add the chicken or vegetables and cook until they are almost done.
- Stir in the tomatoes, biryani masala, turmeric powder, and red chili powder.
- Add the boiled tapioca and mix well.
- Layer the tapioca mixture with yogurt in a heavy-bottomed pan and cook on low heat for 15-20 minutes.
- Serve hot with raita and pickle.
