Tarta Chaja, also known as Chaja Cake, is a traditional dessert from Montevideo, Uruguay. This delicious cake is made with layers of sponge cake, dulce de leche, whipped cream, and peaches, creating a delightful combination of flavors and textures.
Ingredients
- 6 eggs
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 can (14 oz) dulce de leche
- 2 cups whipped cream
- 2 peaches, sliced
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, beat the eggs and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Gently fold in the flour and baking powder until well combined.
- Pour the batter into a greased and floured round cake pan.
- Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool completely.
- Once cooled, slice the cake horizontally into two layers.
- Spread a layer of dulce de leche on the bottom cake layer.
- Top with a layer of whipped cream and sliced peaches.
- Place the second cake layer on top and repeat the layers of dulce de leche, whipped cream, and peaches.
- Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour before serving.
