Tasty Rava Upma (ರವ ಉಪ್ಮಾ)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup semolina (rava)
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped
  • 1/2 inch ginger, grated
  • 1 carrot, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup green peas
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp urad dal (split black gram)
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 8-10 curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • 2-3 tbsp chopped coriander leaves

Instructions

  1. Heat a pan and dry roast the semolina until it turns golden brown. Keep it aside.
  2. Heat oil in the same pan and add mustard seeds. Once they start to splutter, add urad dal and sauté until it turns golden brown.
  3. Add chopped onions, green chili, and grated ginger. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
  4. Add the chopped vegetables, turmeric powder, and salt. Sauté for a few minutes until the vegetables are slightly cooked.
  5. Pour 2 cups of water into the pan and bring it to a boil.
  6. Reduce the heat to low and slowly add the roasted semolina, stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
  7. Cover the pan and let the upma cook for 5-7 minutes on low heat.
  8. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
