Tasty Rava Upma (ರವ ಉಪ್ಮಾ)
ರವ ಉಪ್ಮಾ (Tasty Rava Upma) is a popular South Indian breakfast dish that is both delicious and nutritious. It is made from semolina (rava), vegetables, and a blend of aromatic spices. This simple and quick recipe is perfect for a healthy start to your day.
Ingredients
- 1 cup semolina (rava)
- 2 cups water
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 green chili, finely chopped
- 1/2 inch ginger, grated
- 1 carrot, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup green peas
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp urad dal (split black gram)
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 8-10 curry leaves
- Salt to taste
- 2-3 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
Instructions
- Heat a pan and dry roast the semolina until it turns golden brown. Keep it aside.
- Heat oil in the same pan and add mustard seeds. Once they start to splutter, add urad dal and sauté until it turns golden brown.
- Add chopped onions, green chili, and grated ginger. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
- Add the chopped vegetables, turmeric powder, and salt. Sauté for a few minutes until the vegetables are slightly cooked.
- Pour 2 cups of water into the pan and bring it to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low and slowly add the roasted semolina, stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
- Cover the pan and let the upma cook for 5-7 minutes on low heat.
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
