Tasty Tomato Rasam
Tasty Tomato Rasam is a traditional South Indian soup that is bursting with flavors and spices. This comforting dish is perfect for a cozy night in or as a starter for a larger meal.
Ingredients
- 4 ripe tomatoes, chopped
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
- 2 tablespoons ghee
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 2 dried red chilies
- 8-10 curry leaves
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups water
Instructions
- In a blender, combine the chopped tomatoes, cumin seeds, black peppercorns, turmeric powder, and tamarind paste. Blend until smooth.
- In a large pot, heat the ghee over medium heat. Add the mustard seeds, dried red chilies, and curry leaves. Sauté until the mustard seeds start to pop.
- Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Pour the tomato mixture into the pot and add the salt. Stir well and let it simmer for 15 minutes.
- Pour in the water and bring the rasam to a gentle boil. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and serve hot.
