Tasty Tomato Rasam

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
  • 2 tablespoons ghee
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 2 dried red chilies
  • 8-10 curry leaves
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

  1. In a blender, combine the chopped tomatoes, cumin seeds, black peppercorns, turmeric powder, and tamarind paste. Blend until smooth.
  2. In a large pot, heat the ghee over medium heat. Add the mustard seeds, dried red chilies, and curry leaves. Sauté until the mustard seeds start to pop.
  3. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Pour the tomato mixture into the pot and add the salt. Stir well and let it simmer for 15 minutes.
  5. Pour in the water and bring the rasam to a gentle boil. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and serve hot.
