Tavuk Korma (spiced Chicken Curry)
Tavuk Korma is a traditional Gagauz dish that features tender pieces of chicken in a rich and aromatic spiced curry sauce. This flavorful and comforting dish is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a special occasion.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs (700g) chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
- 1 cup (240ml) yogurt
- 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup (60ml) water
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and cook until they are soft and translucent.
- Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the pot, and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Add the chicken pieces to the pot and cook until they are browned on all sides.
- Stir in the chopped tomatoes, yogurt, and water. Season with salt to taste.
- Cover the pot and let the chicken simmer for 45-50 minutes, or until it is cooked through and tender.
- Stir in the heavy cream and let the curry simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
