Tavuk Korma (spiced Chicken Curry)

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs (700g) chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
  • 1 cup (240ml) yogurt
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) water
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and cook until they are soft and translucent.
  2. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the pot, and cook for another 2 minutes.
  3. Add the chicken pieces to the pot and cook until they are browned on all sides.
  4. Stir in the chopped tomatoes, yogurt, and water. Season with salt to taste.
  5. Cover the pot and let the chicken simmer for 45-50 minutes, or until it is cooked through and tender.
  6. Stir in the heavy cream and let the curry simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
  7. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
