Ingredients

  • 300g tempeh, sliced into thin rectangles
  • 1 cup cooking oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 red chilies, sliced
  • 3 tablespoons sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon tamarind paste
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat the cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the tempeh slices until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  2. In a separate pan, heat a little oil and sauté the garlic and red chilies until fragrant.
  3. Add the sweet soy sauce, soy sauce, tamarind paste, sugar, and water. Stir well and let it simmer for a few minutes.
  4. Season with salt to taste, then add the fried tempeh to the sauce. Toss to coat the tempeh evenly.
  5. Remove from heat and transfer to a serving plate. Garnish with some sliced red chilies for an extra kick.
