Tempeh Asam Manis (sweet And Sour Tempeh)

Ingredients

  • 1 block of tempeh, cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, coat the tempeh cubes with cornstarch.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat and fry the coated tempeh until crispy. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, sauté the onion, bell pepper, and garlic until fragrant.
  4. In a small bowl, mix together ketchup, soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, and water to create the sauce.
  5. Pour the sauce into the pan with the sautéed vegetables and bring to a simmer.
  6. Add the crispy tempeh to the pan and toss to coat with the sauce. Cook for a few more minutes until the sauce thickens.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Serve the Tempeh Asam Manis hot with steamed rice.
