Ingredients

  • 1 whole fresh fish (such as sea bass or snapper), cleaned and scaled
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, julienned
  • 2 stalks green onions, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon Shaoxing wine (Chinese cooking wine)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1/4 cup cilantro, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Place the fish on a heatproof dish that fits inside a steamer.
  2. Spread the garlic, ginger, and green onions on top of the fish.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, Shaoxing wine, sugar, and white pepper. Pour this sauce over the fish.
  4. Steam the fish over high heat for 15-20 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through.
  5. Garnish with chopped cilantro before serving.
