Tequeño Explosion (Explosión de Tequeños)
Tequeños are a popular Venezuelan appetizer made with cheese wrapped in dough and fried to crispy perfection. In this recipe, we'll take the classic tequeño to the next level by adding a delicious filling and creating an explosion of flavor in every bite!
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
- 1/4 cup cold water
- 8 oz queso blanco (Venezuelan white cheese), cut into sticks
- 1/2 cup guava paste, cut into small cubes
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the flour, salt, and sugar. Add the cold butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add the cold water and knead the dough until smooth. Cover with plastic wrap and let it rest for 15 minutes.
- Roll out the dough into a thin rectangle and cut it into strips.
- Place a piece of queso blanco and a cube of guava paste at one end of each dough strip, then roll it up, sealing the edges.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Fry the tequeños until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve hot and enjoy the explosion of flavors!
