Tfaya (spicy Beef Tagine)

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs beef, cubed
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup slivered almonds
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Season the beef with salt, pepper, and the ground spices.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a tagine or large pot over medium heat. Add the beef and brown on all sides.
  3. Add the sliced onions and garlic to the pot and cook until softened.
  4. Stir in the honey, raisins, and enough water to cover the meat.
  5. Cover and simmer for 1.5 hours, or until the beef is tender.
  6. In a separate pan, sauté the almonds until golden brown.
  7. Once the beef is cooked, transfer it to a serving dish and top with the caramelized onions, raisins, and almonds.
