Tfaya (spicy Beef Tagine)
Tfaya, a spicy beef tagine, is a traditional dish from Berber cuisine that is bursting with flavor. The combination of tender beef, sweet caramelized onions, and a blend of aromatic spices makes this dish a true delight for the senses.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs beef, cubed
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 1/4 cup slivered almonds
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Season the beef with salt, pepper, and the ground spices.
- Heat the olive oil in a tagine or large pot over medium heat. Add the beef and brown on all sides.
- Add the sliced onions and garlic to the pot and cook until softened.
- Stir in the honey, raisins, and enough water to cover the meat.
- Cover and simmer for 1.5 hours, or until the beef is tender.
- In a separate pan, sauté the almonds until golden brown.
- Once the beef is cooked, transfer it to a serving dish and top with the caramelized onions, raisins, and almonds.
