Thalipeeth (थालीपीठ)
Thalipeeth is a traditional Maharashtrian flatbread made from a mix of different flours and spices. It is a popular breakfast or snack option in Maharashtra, India.
Ingredients
- 1 cup jowar flour
- 1/2 cup besan (gram flour)
- 1/4 cup wheat flour
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onions
- 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh coriander leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- Water as needed
- Oil for cooking
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine jowar flour, besan, wheat flour, onions, green chilies, coriander leaves, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt.
- Add water gradually and knead the mixture into a smooth dough.
- Divide the dough into equal-sized balls and flatten them into round thalipeeth on a greased banana leaf or parchment paper.
- Heat a non-stick pan or griddle and cook the thalipeeth with a little oil until both sides are golden brown and crispy.
- Repeat the process for the remaining dough balls.
- Serve hot with yogurt, pickle, or chutney.
