Thareed Bil Laham (spiced Lamb And Chickpea Stew With Flatbread)
Thareed Bil Laham is a traditional Qatari stew made with spiced lamb, chickpeas, and flatbread. This hearty and flavorful dish is perfect for a comforting meal, especially during the cooler months.
Ingredients
- 1 kg lamb, cut into chunks
- 2 onions, chopped
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 can (400g) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 4 cups chicken or lamb broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 pieces of flatbread
Instructions
- In a large pot, brown the lamb chunks over medium heat.
- Add the onions and garlic, and cook until softened.
- Stir in the ground cumin, coriander, turmeric, cinnamon, and nutmeg, and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Add the chickpeas and broth, and season with salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1.5 hours.
- Tear the flatbread into large pieces and add to the stew. Simmer for an additional 15 minutes.
- Adjust seasoning if needed, then serve the stew hot.
