Thayet Kyaw, also known as Tamarind Glazed Chicken Satay, is a popular dish in Burmese Chinese cuisine. It features tender chicken skewers marinated in a flavorful tamarind glaze and grilled to perfection.
Ingredients
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into strips
- 1/4 cup tamarind paste
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Wooden skewers, soaked in water
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together tamarind paste, soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, garlic, coriander, cumin, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
- Add the chicken strips to the marinade and toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Thread the marinated chicken strips onto the soaked skewers.
- Grill the chicken skewers for 3-4 minutes per side, or until cooked through and slightly charred.
- Serve the Thayet Kyaw hot with extra tamarind glaze for dipping.
