Thayet Kyaw (tamarind Glazed Tofu Satay)
Thayet Kyaw, also known as Tamarind Glazed Tofu Satay, is a popular dish in Burmese Chinese cuisine. It features marinated tofu skewers grilled to perfection and glazed with a sweet and tangy tamarind sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 block of firm tofu, pressed and cut into cubes
- 1/4 cup tamarind paste
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 8 bamboo skewers, soaked in water
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix tamarind paste, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, coriander, cumin, turmeric, and cayenne pepper to make the marinade.
- Add the tofu cubes to the marinade and let it sit for 15 minutes.
- Thread the marinated tofu onto the soaked bamboo skewers.
- Heat a grill pan or stovetop grill over medium-high heat.
- Grill the tofu skewers for 3-4 minutes on each side, basting with the remaining marinade.
- Once the tofu is caramelized and slightly charred, remove from the grill and serve hot.
