Thayet Kyaw (tamarind Glazed Tofu Satay)

Ingredients

  • 1 block of firm tofu, pressed and cut into cubes
  • 1/4 cup tamarind paste
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 8 bamboo skewers, soaked in water

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix tamarind paste, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, coriander, cumin, turmeric, and cayenne pepper to make the marinade.
  2. Add the tofu cubes to the marinade and let it sit for 15 minutes.
  3. Thread the marinated tofu onto the soaked bamboo skewers.
  4. Heat a grill pan or stovetop grill over medium-high heat.
  5. Grill the tofu skewers for 3-4 minutes on each side, basting with the remaining marinade.
  6. Once the tofu is caramelized and slightly charred, remove from the grill and serve hot.
