Tian La Yu, also known as Sweet Chili Fish, is a popular dish in Pakistani Chinese cuisine. It features tender fish fillets coated in a sweet and spicy chili sauce, creating a delightful combination of flavors.
Ingredients
- 4 fish fillets (such as tilapia or cod)
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup sweet chili sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon minced ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Pat the fish fillets dry with paper towels and season with salt and pepper.
- Dredge the fish fillets in cornstarch, shaking off any excess.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Cook the fish fillets for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden and crispy. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, rice vinegar, minced garlic, minced ginger, and red pepper flakes. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Return the cooked fish fillets to the skillet and coat them with the sweet chili sauce.
- Serve the Tian La Yu hot, garnished with sliced green onions, and steamed rice on the side.
