Timballo Di Maccheroni: Baked Pasta Pie

Ingredients

  • 500g maccheroni pasta
  • 500g ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a round baking dish.
  2. Cook the maccheroni pasta according to the package instructions, then drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, and cook until softened.
  4. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Stir in the tomato sauce and let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. In a large bowl, beat the eggs and mix in the cooked maccheroni, Parmesan cheese, and half of the mozzarella cheese.
  7. Spread half of the maccheroni mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  8. Top with the beef and tomato sauce mixture, then cover with the remaining maccheroni mixture.
  9. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese and breadcrumbs over the top.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  11. Let the Timballo di Maccheroni rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
