Tiramisu (Tiramisù)
Tiramisù, meaning "pick me up" or "cheer me up" in Italian, is a popular coffee-flavored dessert that originated in the Veneto region of Italy. This no-bake treat is made with layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and a creamy mixture of eggs, sugar, and mascarpone cheese, topped with a dusting of cocoa powder.
Ingredients
- 6 egg yolks
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup mascarpone cheese
- 1 1/2 cups strong brewed coffee, cooled
- 24 ladyfinger cookies
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until well combined and creamy.
- Add the mascarpone cheese to the egg mixture and beat until smooth.
- One at a time, dip the ladyfinger cookies into the brewed coffee and arrange them in the bottom of a 9x9 inch dish.
- Spoon half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers and spread it into an even layer.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining ladyfingers and mascarpone mixture.
- Cover and refrigerate the tiramisù for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
- Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisù with unsweetened cocoa powder using a fine-mesh sieve.
