Tiramisu (Tiramisù)

Tiramisù, meaning "pick me up" or "cheer me up" in Italian, is a popular coffee-flavored dessert that originated in the Veneto region of Italy. This no-bake treat is made with layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and a creamy mixture of eggs, sugar, and mascarpone cheese, topped with a dusting of cocoa powder.

Tiramisu (Tiramisù)

Ingredients

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 24 ladyfinger cookies
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until well combined and creamy.
  2. Add the mascarpone cheese to the egg mixture and beat until smooth.
  3. One at a time, dip the ladyfinger cookies into the brewed coffee and arrange them in the bottom of a 9x9 inch dish.
  4. Spoon half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers and spread it into an even layer.
  5. Repeat the layers with the remaining ladyfingers and mascarpone mixture.
  6. Cover and refrigerate the tiramisù for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
  7. Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisù with unsweetened cocoa powder using a fine-mesh sieve.
