Tiramisu Toscano (tuscan Tiramisu)
Tiramisu Toscano, also known as Tuscan Tiramisu, is a classic Italian dessert that is loved for its rich and creamy layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and mascarpone cheese. This recipe offers a Southern European twist on the traditional Tiramisu, perfect for a special occasion or a delightful treat.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups strong brewed coffee, cooled
- 3 tablespoons coffee liqueur
- 4 large egg yolks
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup mascarpone cheese
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 24 ladyfinger cookies
- Unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting
Instructions
- In a shallow dish, combine the cooled coffee and coffee liqueur. Set aside.
- In a heatproof bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar. Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water, making sure the bottom of the bowl does not touch the water. Whisk constantly until the mixture thickens and doubles in volume. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. In another bowl, whisk the mascarpone cheese and vanilla extract until smooth. Gently fold the mascarpone mixture into the egg yolk mixture, then fold in the whipped cream until fully combined.
- Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture and arrange them in a single layer in the bottom of a 9x9 inch dish.
- Spoon half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers and spread it into an even layer. Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.
- Before serving, dust the top with unsweetened cocoa powder. Slice and serve chilled.
