Ingredients
- 1 block of firm tofu, drained and cubed
- 2 cups of sliced mushrooms
- 1 onion, sliced
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon of ginger, grated
- 1 bell pepper, sliced
- 1/4 cup of soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons of hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon of sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon of cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Press the tofu between paper towels to remove excess moisture, then cut it into cubes.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, and cornstarch to make the sauce. Set aside.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the tofu cubes and cook until golden brown on all sides. Remove the tofu from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed, then sauté the onion, garlic, and ginger until fragrant.
- Add the mushrooms and bell pepper to the skillet and cook until they start to soften.
- Return the tofu to the skillet and pour the sauce over the tofu and vegetables. Stir well to coat everything in the sauce and cook for a few more minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve the tofu and mushroom stir-fry hot, over a bed of steamed rice or noodles.
