Tomato Gojju (tangy Tomato Gojju)
Tomato Gojju is a popular tangy and spicy dish from Mangalurean Cuisine. It is a versatile dish that can be served with rice, dosa, idli, or chapati.
Ingredients
- 4 large tomatoes, chopped
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2-3 green chilies, slit
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp jaggery
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp oil
- Few curry leaves
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add cumin seeds and curry leaves.
- Add chopped onions and green chilies. Saute until the onions turn translucent.
- Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes turn mushy.
- Add jaggery and water. Mix well and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes.
- Tomato Gojju is ready to be served.
