Tomato Rasam (tangy Tomato Rasam)
Tomato Rasam, also known as Tangy Tomato Rasam, is a traditional South Indian soup-like dish that is packed with flavors and spices. It is a popular comfort food and is often served as a part of a meal or enjoyed on its own.
Ingredients
- 4 ripe tomatoes, chopped
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
- 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves, chopped
- 1 teaspoon ghee or oil
- Salt to taste
- 4 cups water
Instructions
- Heat ghee or oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once they start to splutter, add cumin seeds and sauté for a few seconds.
- Add chopped onions and green chilies. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
- Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes turn soft and mushy.
- Add tamarind paste and water. Bring the rasam to a boil and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes.
- Add freshly chopped coriander leaves and turn off the heat.
- Tomato Rasam is ready to be served hot with steamed rice or enjoyed as a comforting soup.
