Tomato Saar is a tangy and flavorful tomato chutney that is a popular dish in Mangalurean cuisine. It is a versatile condiment that can be served with dosa, idli, rice, or even as a dip for snacks.
Ingredients
- 4 large tomatoes, chopped
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2-3 green chilies, chopped
- 1/2 cup grated coconut
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- A few curry leaves
Instructions
- In a pan, heat the oil and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add the curry leaves, chopped onion, and green chilies. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
- Add the chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes turn soft.
- Once the mixture cools down, grind it along with grated coconut and cumin seeds to a smooth paste using a blender.
- Transfer the chutney to a serving bowl.
- Tomato Saar is ready to be served with your favorite dishes!
