Tomato Saar (tangy Tomato Chutney)

Ingredients

  • 4 large tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2-3 green chilies, chopped
  • 1/2 cup grated coconut
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • A few curry leaves

Instructions

  1. In a pan, heat the oil and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add the curry leaves, chopped onion, and green chilies. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
  2. Add the chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes turn soft.
  3. Once the mixture cools down, grind it along with grated coconut and cumin seeds to a smooth paste using a blender.
  4. Transfer the chutney to a serving bowl.
  5. Tomato Saar is ready to be served with your favorite dishes!
