Tortilla (Abyei Apple Pie) is a delicious South Sudanese dessert that combines the flavors of traditional tortilla with the sweetness of Abyei apples.
Ingredients
- 6 Abyei apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 package (14.1 ounces) refrigerated pie crusts
- 2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, salt, and flour. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
- Place one pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish. Pour the apple mixture into the crust and dot with butter.
- Top with the second pie crust, seal the edges, and cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
- Bake for 45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- Allow the pie to cool before serving.
