Tostones Fiesta
Tostones Fiesta is a popular Nicaraguan dish made with fried green plantains that are smashed and fried again until crispy. This dish is perfect for a fiesta or any gathering with friends and family.
Ingredients
- 2 green plantains, peeled and cut into 1-inch slices
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
- Add the plantain slices and fry for 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden brown.
- Remove the fried plantains from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Using a tostonera or the bottom of a heavy glass, flatten the fried plantains to about 1/4 inch thick.
- Return the flattened plantains to the skillet and fry for an additional 2-3 minutes on each side, until crispy and golden brown.
- Remove the tostones from the skillet, sprinkle with salt, and serve hot.
