Tostones (plantain Fritters)
Tostones, also known as plantain fritters, are a popular dish in Barbadian cuisine. They are made from green plantains that are fried, flattened, and then fried again until crispy. Tostones are often served as a side dish or snack and are enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.
Ingredients
- 2 green plantains
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Peel the plantains and cut them into 1-inch thick slices.
- In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
- Fry the plantain slices for 2-3 minutes on each side, until they are golden brown.
- Remove the fried plantains from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Using the bottom of a cup or a flat surface, flatten each plantain slice to about half of its original thickness.
- Return the flattened plantains to the skillet and fry for an additional 2-3 minutes on each side, until they are crispy and golden brown.
- Remove the tostones from the skillet, sprinkle with salt, and serve hot.
