Ingredients

  • 2 green plantains
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Peel the plantains and cut them into 1-inch thick slices.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  3. Fry the plantain slices for 2-3 minutes on each side, until they are golden brown.
  4. Remove the fried plantains from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  5. Using the bottom of a cup or a flat surface, flatten each plantain slice to about half of its original thickness.
  6. Return the flattened plantains to the skillet and fry for an additional 2-3 minutes on each side, until they are crispy and golden brown.
  7. Remove the tostones from the skillet, sprinkle with salt, and serve hot.
