Ingredients

  • 2 green plantains, peeled and cut into 1-inch slices
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the plantain slices to the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
  3. Remove the fried plantains from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  4. Using a tostonera or the bottom of a heavy glass, flatten the fried plantain slices to about half their original thickness.
  5. Return the flattened plantains to the hot oil and fry for an additional 2-3 minutes on each side, or until crispy and golden brown.
  6. Remove the tostones from the oil, sprinkle with salt, and serve hot.
