Ingredients

  • 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, pureed
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2-3 cloves
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tbsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, bay leaf, cinnamon stick, and cloves. Sauté until fragrant.
  2. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Add minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chilies. Sauté for a few minutes.
  4. Now add the chicken pieces and cook until they are no longer pink.
  5. Stir in the tomato puree, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook until the oil separates from the masala.
  6. Whisk the yogurt and add it to the chicken. Cook for another 10-15 minutes on low heat.
  7. Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
