Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup loose leaf tea
- 1/4 cup boiling water
- 1/4 cup sugar
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve 1 tsp of sugar in warm water. Sprinkle the yeast over the water and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour and 1 tbsp of sugar. Add the yeast mixture and knead until a smooth dough forms. Cover and let it rise for 1 hour.
- Meanwhile, steep the loose leaf tea in boiling water for 5 minutes. Strain the tea leaves and mix the tea with 1/4 cup of sugar in a small bowl.
- Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and roll each piece into a small circle. Place a spoonful of the tea-sugar mixture in the center of each circle and seal the dough around the filling.
- Place the buns on a steamer lined with parchment paper and steam for 15 minutes.
