Transylvanian Plum Dumplings with Cottage Cheese (Túrós Szilvás Gombóc)
Túrós Szilvás Gombóc, or Transylvanian Plum Dumplings with Cottage Cheese, is a traditional dish from the Transylvanian Saxon cuisine. These delicious dumplings are a perfect combination of sweet plums and creamy cottage cheese, wrapped in a tender potato dough.
Ingredients
- 4 medium potatoes, boiled and mashed
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 12 ripe plums, pitted
- 1 cup cottage cheese
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup bread crumbs
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the mashed potatoes, flour, and salt to form a dough.
- Divide the dough into 12 equal parts and flatten each into a small disc.
- Place a plum in the center of each disc and wrap the dough around it, forming a smooth ball.
- In a separate bowl, mix the cottage cheese, sugar, and cinnamon.
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil and carefully drop the dumplings in. Cook for 8-10 minutes or until they float to the surface.
- In a pan, melt the butter and toast the bread crumbs until golden brown.
- Roll the cooked dumplings in the toasted bread crumbs, then serve with a dollop of sweetened cottage cheese and a dusting of powdered sugar.
