Ingredients

  • 1 kg beef, cut into cubes
  • 2 large onions, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons Hungarian sweet paprika
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 2 green peppers, sliced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons lard or vegetable oil
  • 1 cup water or beef broth

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat the lard or vegetable oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onions and sauté until translucent.
  3. Add the beef cubes and brown them on all sides.
  4. Stir in the Hungarian sweet paprika and minced garlic, and cook for a minute to release the flavors.
  5. Add the diced tomatoes, sliced green peppers, salt, and pepper. Pour in the water or beef broth.
  6. Bring the stew to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for about 2 hours or until the meat is tender.
  7. Adjust the seasoning if needed and serve hot.
