Transylvanian Sweet Cheese Dumplings (Túrógombóc)
Túrógombóc is a traditional Transylvanian Saxon dessert made of sweet cheese dumplings coated in breadcrumbs and sugar, often served with a dollop of sour cream.
Ingredients
- 500g túró (Hungarian fresh curd cheese)
- 100g semolina
- 2 eggs
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 100g breadcrumbs
- 50g butter
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix túró, semolina, eggs, sugar, and salt to form a dough.
- Divide the dough and shape into small dumplings.
- Bring a pot of water to a boil and cook the dumplings in batches for 5-7 minutes or until they float to the surface.
- In a separate pan, melt the butter and add the breadcrumbs. Toast until golden brown.
- Roll the cooked dumplings in the toasted breadcrumbs.
- Sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
