Túrógombóc is a traditional Transylvanian Saxon dessert made of sweet cheese dumplings coated in breadcrumbs and sugar, often served with a dollop of sour cream.

Transylvanian Sweet Cheese Dumplings (Túrógombóc)

Ingredients

  • 500g túró (Hungarian fresh curd cheese)
  • 100g semolina
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 100g breadcrumbs
  • 50g butter
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix túró, semolina, eggs, sugar, and salt to form a dough.
  2. Divide the dough and shape into small dumplings.
  3. Bring a pot of water to a boil and cook the dumplings in batches for 5-7 minutes or until they float to the surface.
  4. In a separate pan, melt the butter and add the breadcrumbs. Toast until golden brown.
  5. Roll the cooked dumplings in the toasted breadcrumbs.
  6. Sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
