Travnik Cheese Burek (Travnički Sirnica)
Travnički Sirnica, also known as Travnik Cheese Burek, is a traditional Bosnian pastry filled with a delicious mixture of cheese and herbs. This savory dish is a popular street food in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and it's perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a snack.
Ingredients
- 500g phyllo dough
- 250g feta cheese, crumbled
- 250g cottage cheese
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh dill, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, mix together the feta cheese, cottage cheese, eggs, sour cream, parsley, dill, salt, and pepper.
- Place one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface and brush it with melted butter. Repeat with 5 more sheets, stacking them on top of each other.
- Spread the cheese mixture evenly over the stacked phyllo dough sheets.
- Roll the phyllo dough and cheese filling into a log shape, then coil it into a spiral and place it in a greased baking dish.
- Brush the top with more melted butter and bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
