Tree Cake (šakotis)
Tree Cake, also known as Šakotis, is a traditional Lithuanian dessert that is popular during special occasions and holidays. This cake is characterized by its unique shape, resembling a tree, and its deliciously crispy layers.
Ingredients
- 10 eggs
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a Šakotis mold.
- In a large bowl, beat the eggs and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Sift in the flour and gently fold it into the egg mixture.
- Add the softened butter, vanilla extract, and salt, and mix until well combined.
- Pour a thin layer of batter into the mold and bake for 5-7 minutes, or until lightly golden.
- Continue adding thin layers of batter and baking until the Šakotis is golden and crispy.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool before carefully removing it from the mold.
