Triglav Mountain Beef Goulash (Triglavski Gozdni Golaž)

Ingredients

  • 1.5 kg beef, cubed
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 red bell peppers, diced
  • 2 tbsp sweet paprika
  • 1 tsp caraway seeds
  • 1 can (400g) diced tomatoes
  • 500ml beef broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the beef cubes and brown them on all sides. Remove the beef from the pot and set aside.
  2. In the same pot, add the chopped onions and sauté until translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Add the diced red bell peppers, sweet paprika, and caraway seeds to the pot. Stir well to combine.
  4. Pour in the diced tomatoes and beef broth. Return the browned beef to the pot. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Bring the goulash to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the beef is tender and the sauce has thickened.
  6. Adjust the seasoning if needed. Serve the Triglavski Gozdni Golaž hot, accompanied by crusty bread or mashed potatoes.
