Tropical Tostones
Tropical tostones are a popular Honduran dish made from green plantains. They are fried until crispy and served as a delicious side or snack.
Ingredients
- 2 green plantains, peeled and sliced into 1-inch pieces
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
- Add the plantain slices to the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
- Remove the fried plantains from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Using a tostonera or the bottom of a heavy glass, flatten each fried plantain slice to about half its original thickness.
- Return the flattened plantains to the hot oil and fry for an additional 2-3 minutes on each side, or until crispy and golden brown.
- Remove the tostones from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate. Sprinkle with salt to taste.
