Tropical Tostones

Tropical tostones are a popular Honduran dish made from green plantains. They are fried until crispy and served as a delicious side or snack.

Ingredients

  • 2 green plantains, peeled and sliced into 1-inch pieces
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the plantain slices to the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
  3. Remove the fried plantains from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  4. Using a tostonera or the bottom of a heavy glass, flatten each fried plantain slice to about half its original thickness.
  5. Return the flattened plantains to the hot oil and fry for an additional 2-3 minutes on each side, or until crispy and golden brown.
  6. Remove the tostones from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate. Sprinkle with salt to taste.
