Tuktuk (grilled Chicken In Spicy Tomato Sauce)
Tuktuk is a traditional Batak dish featuring grilled chicken smothered in a spicy tomato sauce. This flavorful and aromatic dish is a staple in Batak cuisine, known for its bold and vibrant flavors.
Ingredients
- 4 chicken thighs
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 1 red chili, sliced
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- 2 tbsp cooking oil
Instructions
- Season the chicken thighs with salt and turmeric powder.
- Heat the cooking oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add the seasoned chicken thighs and cook until golden brown on both sides, then set aside.
- In the same pan, sauté the onion, garlic, and red chili until fragrant.
- Add the tomatoes, coriander powder, and cumin powder, and cook until the tomatoes are soft.
- Pour in the coconut milk and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Return the grilled chicken to the pan and coat it with the spicy tomato sauce.
- Serve the Tuktuk hot with steamed rice.
