Ingredients

  • 1 package of phyllo dough
  • 1 cup of unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups of mixed nuts (such as walnuts, pistachios, and almonds), finely chopped
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground cloves
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup of honey
  • 1 teaspoon of rose water
  • 1 cup of Turkish delight, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix the chopped nuts, 1 cup of sugar, cinnamon, and cloves.
  3. Layer 10 sheets of phyllo dough in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
  4. Sprinkle a layer of the nut mixture over the phyllo dough.
  5. Repeat the layers of phyllo dough and nut mixture until all the ingredients are used, ending with a top layer of phyllo dough. Make sure to brush each layer with melted butter.
  6. Cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes using a sharp knife.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until the baklava is golden and crisp.
  8. While the baklava is baking, prepare the syrup by combining 1 cup of sugar, water, honey, and rose water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
  9. When the baklava is done, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup over the hot baklava. Sprinkle the chopped Turkish delight over the top.
  10. Allow the baklava to cool completely before serving.
