Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (for topping)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and 1 cup of sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the milk and vanilla.
- Gradually blend in the flour mixture until just combined. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
- Arrange the apple slices in a circular pattern over the batter. In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over the apples.
- Bake for 40 to 45 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan on a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.
