Udmurt Potato and Mushroom Gratin (Картофельно-грибной гратин)

Ingredients

  • 6 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 300g mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cups grated cheese
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish.
  3. Top with half of the sliced onion and half of the sliced mushrooms.
  4. Sprinkle half of the grated cheese over the mushrooms.
  5. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, onion, mushrooms, and cheese.
  6. In a bowl, mix the heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Pour this mixture over the layered ingredients in the baking dish.
  7. Dot the top with butter.
  8. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  9. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
