Udupi Coconut Chutney
Udupi Coconut Chutney is a popular South Indian condiment that is typically served with dosa, idli, vada, or any other South Indian snack. This creamy and flavorful chutney is made with fresh coconut, roasted chana dal, green chilies, and a few other ingredients.
Ingredients
- 1 cup fresh grated coconut
- 2 tablespoons roasted chana dal
- 2-3 green chilies
- 1-inch ginger, chopped
- 1/2 cup water
- Salt to taste
- For tempering:
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon urad dal
- 2-3 dry red chilies
- A few curry leaves
Instructions
- In a blender, add the grated coconut, roasted chana dal, green chilies, ginger, and water. Blend to a smooth paste.
- Transfer the chutney to a serving bowl and add salt to taste. Mix well.
- For tempering, heat oil in a small pan. Add mustard seeds, urad dal, dry red chilies, and curry leaves. Once the mustard seeds start to splutter and the dal turns golden, pour the tempering over the chutney.
