Udupi Idli

Ingredients

  • 2 cups idli rice
  • 1 cup urad dal (split black gram)
  • 1/2 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed

Instructions

  1. Wash the idli rice, urad dal, and fenugreek seeds separately and soak them in water for 4-5 hours.
  2. Grind the soaked rice and dal separately to a smooth batter. Mix them together, add salt, and allow the batter to ferment overnight.
  3. After fermentation, pour the batter into greased idli molds and steam for 10-12 minutes until the idlis are cooked through.
  4. Remove the idlis from the molds and serve hot with chutney and sambar.
